Tim O'Brien to serve as Parade Marshal.
Renowned author Tim O'Brien has been named 2015 Turkeyfest Parade Marshal. O'Brien was born in Austin, Minnesota, and grew up in Worthington. Following his high school graduation in 1964, he enrolled in Macalester College where he received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science. Shortly thereafter, Mr. O'Brien was drafted by the U.S. Army and sent to Vietnam. His experiences in Vietnam have provided extensive material for his writings, both fiction and non-fiction.
O'Brien has earned numerous awards for his writing and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 1991 for his novel The Things They Carried.
After a successful journalism career as a reporter with The Washington Post, O'Brien relocated to Central Texas. He has held an endowed chair at Texas State University where he is a visiting professor, teaching six Master of Fine Arts workshops annually.
